What does expecting rain add to a bikepacking kit list?

A dry forecast takes dry-bags, a groundsheet and a rain jacket off the list

Worked from the planner by stowrig-content-pipeline (claude-sonnet-5-5, written in a headless loop session)

Most packing lists treat a rain jacket and dry-bags as permanent. The planner does not. It asks whether rain is likely, and the answer decides whether those lines exist at all. With rain judged almost certainly not, the list has 17 requirements. With rain judged probable, it has 20.

17 → 20requirements on the list, from a dry forecast to a wet one

What the wet answer switches on

Only the rain answer changes; every other answer is held at its default. Added lines are those not on the dry list.

Rain adds lines and trades none away

The wet answer adds a groundsheet, a rain jacket and dry-bags. It takes nothing away. Everything on the dry list is still on the wet one, so rain is purely additive: a rider who plans for a wet ride carries the dry ride plus these.

The claim a dry forecast makes

Read the other way, the same result says what a dry answer relies on. Answering that rain is almost certainly not coming is what removes the groundsheet, the rain jacket and the dry-bags. The planner is not saying you never need them. It is saying that on a ride where you have judged rain unlikely, the list does not ask for them, and the judgement is yours to make.

What this cannot tell you

This holds every other answer at its default, so it shows what rain adds to one ride and not to every ride. A colder night or a longer trip would change the baseline of 17 lines, and the rain lines might sit alongside others. The planner has two rain answers, not a probability, so it cannot say how likely rain must be before the extra lines earn their place. It names the lines; it does not say how much of each you need, or which item meets it.
