I said bikepacking, not touring. Does that change what the planner tells me to carry?
Saying touring instead of bikepacking changes nothing on the list
A rider who says touring rather than bikepacking may reasonably expect a different list. To find out whether the planner agrees, it was run twice, once per style, with every other answer left at its default. Only the style changed.
Identicalthe requirement list and every option pick, for bikepacking and for touring
| Style | Requirement ids | Option picked for each requirement |
|---|---|---|
| bikepacking | the shared list below | the baseline |
| touring | the same ids, none added, none removed | the same pick on every requirement |
The list both styles share
- cookset
- documents
- dry-bags
- first-aid
- groundsheet
- head-torch
- insulation
- lights
- multitool
- navigation
- off-bike-clothes
- power
- puncture-kit
- rain-jacket
- shelter
- sleeping-bag
- sleeping-mat
- stove
- water-capacity
- water-treatment
What this means for the answer you gave
Nothing the planner tells you to carry depends on which word you chose. Two riders who differ only in that answer receive the same lines and the same recommended option under each. At the defaults, the style answer is not an input to any rule that adds, removes or picks differently.
What this cannot tell you
This compares two runs with every other answer at its default. It does not show that no combination of other answers would make style matter, and it says nothing about how a touring rider and a bikepacking rider differ in the bags they choose or the places they sleep. The planner holds no such rule, so it can neither confirm nor deny that difference. It reports only that the list it builds does not depend on the word.

Other notes worked the same way
- What does expecting rain add to a bikepacking kit list?
A dry forecast takes dry-bags, a groundsheet and a rain jacket off the list
- What do I add to a bikepacking kit list for cold nights?
Cold nights add four lines at freezing, and the first step adds one
- Does riding singletrack instead of gravel actually change what I pack?
Singletrack adds a spares line that gravel leaves off
